Leatherman Kick Tool - An Interesting Choice That's Lightweight But Still Equipped With Useful Tools

The Leatherman Kick is the smallest of a range of three pocket tools manufactured by Leatherman, the other models are the Fuse and the Blast.

Leatherman Kick - A Lightweight Multi Tool

The Leatherman Kick features plastic set into the body of the multi tool to make it substantially more comfortable to hold than the previous PST and PST II models. The Leatherman Kick is a much called for addition, as anyone who has purchased and used a PST will attest to! The set of pliers have been redesigned to maximize strength without affecting the pocket tool's size or mass, and seems to have made a difference- they are a little odd to look at for those used to other variations, however this is a tool, not a fashion parade, and they do the job.

The Leatherman Kick also benefits from a phillips screwdriver, can/bottle opener, a pair of flathead screwdrivers, and a clip- point knife. The tool selection may be minimal on this one, although remember, it is the smallest of a series of products. The plus side is that the tools (particularly the screwdrivers) appear to be a little better than other multi's - the shafts are to some extent longer, allowing a little more versatility than you might expect, and a better chance at difficult to get to screws. It's a small factor, but it really does add up - especially if it's the only tool you have handy and the screw is buried inside of something.

Leatherman Kick - Includes an Extended Screwdriver

Overall, the Kick is a well thought out tool, but it does have it's negatives. Due to it's low weight, the Kick feels flimsy. As it is supported by Leatherman's 25 year guarantee, it is a very sturdy tool, although compared to several different tools both greater in size and smaller in size, it doesn't seem to be quite as tough. It also might seem a little small to those with big hands.

Most importantly, even with the low number of tools on the product, it does suffer from Leatherman's infamous curse, tool clumping. Why is it that a handle with only 3 tools in it, all pull out whenever you try to get only one? With revised designs of pocket tools, this problem should be a forgotten memory.

The Leatherman Kick is a decent tool at a good price, but not an option for a regular user or a bigger person. I would say it is better suited as a small tool for a lady's handbag or as a kid's first tool. It could be referred to as a "cute" tool for people that occasionally need tools and like to be prepared.
