The most prominent improvement with the most recent knives are the handles, and not simply to look at. "We had great qualities in our old knives, but the handles were too thick and chunky just to accommodate them", says Product Manager, Jason Carpenter. "Our intention was to shrink and slim down these brand new knives while keeping the existing functionality. We also aimed to make sure that became far easily identified as being grouped together."
The latest handles on the Crater knives are completely black, 60% glass-filled nylon. Expanse knives feature a combination black and silver handle made from 60% glass-filled nylon and strengthened with stainless steel. By enhancing the handle scale/frame design, engineers managed to make them about 30% more light weight and thinner than past models.
Blades:
Both the series are equipped with 2.6-inch blades, (33-models). Crater series blades are cut from 420HC stainless steel and Expanse series from 154CM. Each knife is supplied with a combination straight/serrated blade. This combination blade is shown by an "x" in the product title.
